What do you get if you mix construction and cuisine?
In the darker recesses of our past you get a despairing attempt to open a can of beans with a pick axe. You think we’re joking….. We never joke!
In the case of Berlin based designers Johanna Dehio and Dominik Hehl you get Construisine, a community canteen project the pair presented as part of the recent Vienna Design Week.
In effect taking as its base the similarities between construction and cuisine, Construisine starts, more or less, by constructing kitchen and dining ensembles and moves over to use the furnishings to create and ultimately enjoy meals.
All in community and cooperative effort.
The idea being to reinstall community feeling in urban environs and to demonstrate just how easier, and more palatable, everything is if we all pull together.
We’re sure there’s a metaphor in there somewhere……
That Vienna Design Week 2013 is now history we can only hope Johanna Dehio and Dominik Hehl repeat the exercise sometime soon, and bring you a few impressions of what you missed……
